Training

As part of our ongoing commitment to raise awareness around dyslexia and specific learning difficulties, the BDA has a comprehensive training offering aimed at building knowledge and understanding whilst enhancing skill levels.

Teacher / Educator Courses

The BDA runs a number of training courses for teachers, TA.s and other education staff. In addition, we also offer open courses specifically for Further and Higher Education. If you are involved in helping others to find their best strategies for effective studying, please visit our Educator Training pages for further information and our full course schedules.

Specialist Teacher Accredited Courses

If it’s more formal external qualifications and courses that you are looking for, then you can find more on our Professional Accreditation pages.

Employer Courses

As an employer, you can gain from the benefits of raising awareness about dyslexia with your employees and the potential for improved individual performance, as a result of making reasonable adjustments in the workplace. Find out more on our Training Services page, or call 0333 405 4565.

Onsite Training Courses

Onsite courses often work out considerably cheaper per-head than our Open Courses for groups of 8 or more, allowing you to train a larger number of staff within your available budget. They also have the additional benefit of being delivered onsite at your school or a location of your choice, removing the hassle of extra travel time and costs.

For schools, colleges and other educational establishments we’re able to offer a range of training during INSET days, after-school sessions and more. The majority of our Open Training Courses are available for delivery onsite, or for an additional fee we can design a bespoke solution tailored to fit your specific needs.

We also provide Onsite training for other, non-educational organisations looking to raise awareness of dyslexia amongst their employees.

If you're looking to become a Dyslexia Specialist Tutor, or are seeking a qualification that will enable you to carry out diagnostic assessments for dyslexia, find out more about the Accredited Level 5 Certificate in Dyslexia.

LDA Certificated Helpline Training Course

The BDA offers a free training Course for Local Dyslexia Association (LDA) volunteers who are sponsored by their LDA Chair. Both LDAs and the BDA are keen to maintain the quality of LDA Helpline Volunteers and this is an important step in ensuring high standards across the country. On successfully completing the Course you will be awarded a Certificate. You will also be eligible to apply for an externally accredited Level 2 qualification, for which there will be a fee payable.

If you are interested in applying for the free Certificated Course you must be a member of your LDA and have discussed your interest in volunteering with your Chair.

Download the Certificated Helpline Training Booklet 1 (pdf) which will guide you through the first steps.
