British Dyslexia Association - Associate Assessors

The BDA serves as the voice for dyslexic individuals, striving to influence government and other institutions to create a dyslexia-friendly society where people of all ages can achieve their full potential. A key strategic objective for the BDA is to provide and model expert services.

We are currently seeking self-employed specialist teacher assessors and psychologists for the following services that we offer:

  • In-person Dyslexia assessment service
  • In-person Dyscalculia assessment service
  • Dyslexia remote assessment service

More detail about the difference between our services can be found on our website: https://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/services/assessments

Associate Assessors are required to provide evidence of:

  • APC (HCPC for psychologists)
  • AMBDA/AMBDA dyscalculia
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance
  • a copy of an anonymised assessment report completed within the last 18 months that meets SASC standards. This must not be one that has been monitored/marked by a tutor or mentor and must not have been submitted for APC.
  • DBS (within the last 3 years) or details of the update service along with your Date of birth.
  • Those who wish to assess for dyscalculia with the BDA must hold AMBDA dyscalculia. Applications may also be considered from those with a level 7 dyscalculia assessor qualification at the BDA’s discretion.

To maintain the highest quality of service for our clients, the BDA requires assessors to submit an application form, clearly indicating the service(s) they would like to be considered for. Upon approval, references will be requested.

This is a self-employed opportunity, and applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Payment: Payment is £420 for a specialist teacher and £520 for a psychologist per assessment.

Administration: The BDA manage all administration such as booking, pre assessment questionnaires and the final report.

Support: The BDA offer associate assessors regular contact sessions, discount on some conferences and access to one free BDA SASC course per year. *

Support with reports: Assessors will receive regular feedback on their reports, dependent on the number of reports completed. Feedback can be claimed as informal CPD when renewing qualifications.

Work: Our services are subject to the number of requests for assessment that the BDA receive. Work cannot be guaranteed.

* The assessor is encouraged to undertake a minimum of 12 assessments per year in order to access approved assessor benefits such as free SASC courses and reduced conference fees. Such benefits are allocated at the BDA’s discretion.

Please send the application and supporting documents required to assessments@bdadyslexia.org.uk

We aim to process applications within 3 - 6 weeks.
