British Dyslexia Association Associate Assessors
The British Dyslexia Association (BDA) is the voice of dyslexic people. We aim to influence government and other institutions to promote a dyslexia friendly society that enables dyslexic people of all ages to reach their full potential. In light of this, one of our strategic objectives is to provide and model expert services.
The British Dyslexia Association is currently looking to recruit specialist teacher assessors and psychologists for the following services that we offer:
- Dyscalculia referral service
- Dyslexia remote assessment service
- Corporate service
More detail about the difference between these services can be found in the table below and on our website: https://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/services/assessments
BDA assessors are required to have and provide the following:
- APC (HCPC for psychologists)
- AMBDA
- Professional Indemnity Insurance
- DBS (within the last 3 years) or details of the update service along with your Date of Birth
- In addition, dyscalculia assessors are required to hold AMBDA dyscalculia. Those who have completed a level 7 dyscalculia course may also be considered.
It is essential that the BDA can assure our clients that we are offering the best service and as such you will be required to submit an application form (clearly stating which service/s you are applying for) and a copy of an anonymised assessment report completed within the last 18 months that meets SASC standards. This must not be one that has been monitored/marked by a tutor or mentor and must not have been submitted for APC. If approved, references will be sought.
Please note that assessors can choose to be both a corporate/remote diagnostic assessment service and referral assessor. Recruitment for these roles is ongoing and thus there is no application closing date.
Dyscalculia Referral | Corporate/Remote Diagnostic Assessment Service
Payment | Assessor chooses their own fee and is responsible for ensuring that payment is made. | Payment of £400 for specialist teachers and £500 for psychologists per assessment paid regularly per month by the BDA. |
Administration | Assessor is responsible for all administration activities including liaising with the client re booking, pre-questionnaires, invoicing. | The BDA manage administration such as booking and pre-questionnaires. Assessors invoice the BDA once a month. |
Support | Assessors are independent and responsible for their own CPD and engaging with networks as necessary. | The BDA offer corporate/remote service assessors regular contact sessions, discount on some conferences and access to one free BDA SASC course per year* |
Fees | Assessors pay £60 per year to be a BDA approved assessor and receive referrals. | There is no fee for corporate/ remote service assessors. |
In person/remote assessment | In person assessments. | Largely remote assessments. |
Support with reports | Both referral and corporate assessors will receive regular feedback on their reports, dependent on the number of reports completed. Feedback can be claimed as informal CPD when renewing qualifications.
Work | Both services are subject to the number of requests for assessment that the BDA receive. Work cannot be guaranteed. |
*Assessors under the corporate/remote diagnostic assessment service must complete a minimum number of assessments per year to be able to access the support listed (likely one per month). The number will depend on the number the BDA can provide. Please send the application and supporting documents required to assessments@bdadyslexia.org.uk
We aim to process applications within 3 - 6 weeks.
