Diagnostic assessments for dyslexia and dyscalculia are not usually funded directly by schools, colleges or other educational settings. While some settings may have access to funding that can contribute towards an assessment, there is no obligation for them to provide or fund an assessment, and arrangements vary between organisations.

Dyslexia and dyscalculia are specific learning difficulties rather than medical conditions, so diagnostic assessments are not funded by the NHS. In most cases, the cost of an assessment is therefore met by the individual, parent or employer.

In some circumstances, an employer or education setting may choose to contribute towards the cost, particularly where an assessment is needed to identify appropriate support or reasonable adjustments. It is worth checking with your school, college, university or employer to find out whether any funding is available.

From time to time, and subject to available funding, the British Dyslexia Association can offer Assessment bursaries to individuals to support them with the cost of accessing diagnostic assessments.
