SEND Specialists Coalition Update

In October we joined forces with over 120 charities, professional bodies, unions and other organisations to send an open letter to ask that the government address gaps in the specialist workforce in the SEND Review. Read the letter here.

We have received an update that Geraint Davies MP has also sent an open letter to government which represented parliamentarians from 16 APPGs, backing our calls for more investment in the specialist workforce.

At the BDA we know that Specialist Teachers for Dyslexia support and intervention make a huge difference to the lives of young people with SEND and believe it is vital that we speak up for and with, this important profession.

This parliamentary letter makes explicit reference to the organisational open letter that we have signed, and we hope it will help apply further pressure on the Government to invest in the specialist workforce in their upcoming SEND and AP Improvement Plan.

The SEND Review is due to be discussed early in the new year, and so we will follow its progress with interest.
