New Local Hubs Project
Monday 29 April 2024
The BDA are launching an exciting new project piloting Local Hubs for dyslexia. We’ll come to you! A local area, grassroots project aiming to provide support that people with dyslexia need.
We aim to:
- Provide local support, meeting the needs of people in the area, particularly enabling access to disadvantaged groups.
- Provide services that people cannot or do not want to access online or nationally.
- Build a stronger dyslexic community and strengthen grassroots involvement.
- Inform and empower the dyslexia community.
Our Local Hubs Project will be launched in 4 phases:
- A community survey asking what support is needed across the country.
- Building a panel of experienced experts to advise on and oversee the project.
- Launch of local hub services in pilot areas Devon, South Wales and Northern Ireland.
- Expanding Local Hubs across the UK
Take the Survey
We would like the dyslexic community to tell us what kinds of services you would find helpful. If you have dyslexia or support a family member who does (or is undiagnosed), please help us by completing a short survey.
We will listen to the voices of those with lived experience and identify the gaps in the local dyslexia community, and work to address those needs.

Expert Panel
We will be working with a group of experts by experience to oversee our pilot project with the long-term aim of expanding it to a wider network of Local Hubs. Our expert panel is a group of knowledgeable individuals with varied skill sets who share our vision to make a real difference in local communities.

Pilot Areas
What can you expect to see in our 3 pilot areas?
The services we offer in Devon, Northern Ireland and South Wales may differ - we will find out what the local need is and trial new types of support. Some activities that may be popular are:
- Peer support for adults with dyslexia
- Peer support for families of children with dyslexia
- Awareness raising and dyslexia information events
- Reading and literacy support
Watch this space to find out how to get involved when our hubs are up and running!
If you can offer some help or input in one of these areas, or would like to register your interest in volunteering for us, please contact localhubs@bdadyslexia.org.uk
