Follow Hakan's journey to the ultimate London Marathon

Monday 19 February 2024

Hakan is running the London Marathon 2024 for us, as part of Moon Hall School team! He has shared his story of determination, strength and hard work to prepare for the London Marathon. Losing three stone, and helping to raise £3000 (and counting!) for the BDA.

Good luck Hakan - We are with you all the way!!!

Why it is so important to me...

"I support the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) because of my firsthand experience working in a specialised dyslexia school, where I've witnessed the daily challenges faced by individuals with dyslexia, particularly in an educational context. The BDA's pivotal role in providing support, resources, and advocacy aligns with my passion for enhancing the educational experience for students with dyslexia.

My commitment to raising funds for the BDA stems from a desire to help these students thrive academically. The BDA's initiatives, such as creating dyslexia-friendly environments and providing specialised resources for educators, are crucial in addressing the unique learning needs of individuals with dyslexia.

Contributing to programmes that offer training and support for educators is a direct way to ensure that students with dyslexia receive the tools and understanding necessary to succeed. By supporting the BDA, I aim to contribute to an inclusive and supportive educational environment that empowers students with dyslexia to reach their full potential."

My Journey so far...

“I can't believe how far I've come since I made the decision to take on the London Marathon. It's been an incredible journey of dedication and hard work. I've managed to shed over 3st, and the transformation is beyond anything I could have imagined."

"When I started, running even just 1k felt like a monumental task, but through consistent training and following the principles of Slimming World, I gradually increased my weekly mileage to an impressive 21km. The progress has been slow but steady, and I've embraced a holistic approach, not just focusing on running but also on maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle as well as teaching"

"As a warm-up to the London Marathon, I'm gearing up for the London Winter Walk. It's not only a chance to fine-tune my preparations but also an opportunity to test my endurance and mental resilience. The excitement is building, and this walk is the perfect way to immerse myself in the marathon spirit."

"Looking back on the journey, I'm proud of the determination that has brought me to this point. Losing weight and increasing my fitness levels have been significant accomplishments, and I'm ready to take on whatever challenges come my way. As I lace up my shoes for the London Winter Walk, I can't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the progress I've made and anticipation for the marathon ahead. Here's to the next milestone in this incredible adventure!”

We are so grateful for Hak’s support and for all our runners taking part in the London Marathon. The money they raise will help to ensure we can continue to provide the pivotal support, resources and advocacy that enhances educational experience for all students with dyslexia.
