BDA celebrates 50 years at the House of Lords

Thursday 17 November 2022

Yesterday the British Dyslexia Association celebrated 50 years of being the voice of dyslexia, and hosted a birthday celebration event at the House of Lords.

It was a great opportunity to look back on the work of the charity and thank so many of the individuals and organisations that have loyally supported us over the years. We were delighted to be joined by BDA ambassadors, staff, volunteers, MPs and representatives from across the field of dyslexia and neurodiversity.

The event included speeches from our newly-appointed CEO Chivonne Preston, Tom Hunt MP and BDA President, Lord Addington. We enjoyed catching up with past and present colleagues and invited one member of staff to cut our 50th birthday cake as they celebrated their very own 40th year with the BDA.

It was also an opportunity to look to the future and reinvigorate our vision for a dyslexia-friendly society. We asked everyone to join us and take a simple pledge to ‘Speak up about dyslexia’ and it was great to see so many people passionately get behind it and commit to raising awareness in their daily lives.

Unfortunately we weren’t able to invite everyone but we raise a glass to everyone who has played a part in the British Dyslexia Association and here’s to the next 50 years!

You can download a leaflet explaining some of the reasons why we believe this pledge is important here and view the full gallery from the event here.
