Our Trustees

Helen Ashley Taylor

Helen has been fully committed to working towards an equal world for dyslexic people since meeting her dyslexic spouse nearly 35 years ago. One of her children is also dyslexic and now studying in Higher Education. Both dyslexic family members encouraged her to become a Trustee of the BDA.

Helen was motivated to become a Trustee after recognising that 2 generations of her family have now experienced similar life inequalities due to dyslexia; she is determined to see more changes for dyslexic people, particularly in education and work. Helen has also volunteered previously for other neurodiversity causes, including working as a mentor to support young autistic adults into employment.

Helen is a fully qualified accountant and chartered governance professional and has worked and volunteered within the charity sector for over 30 years in both Executive and Non-Executive capacities. She has held senior governance roles in several educational organisations including many large multi-academy trusts. Helen previously worked as a Senior Accountant at The Charity Commission and has held senior positions in many household name charities, including as the first ever Head of Governance for the London Marathon Group.

Helen was awarded the Points of Light Award in 2017 by the Prime Minister for her contribution to outstanding volunteering.
