Our Senior Team

Chivonne Preston - Chief Executive Officer

Chivonne joined the BDA in October 2022 bringing significant experience of operational and strategic leadership from both the private and charity sectors. She is passionate about high-quality education and the power of the community to remove social barriers and enable individuals to flourish, and has held senior roles at a number of national charities pursuing these themes.

"The British Dyslexia Association has made a tremendous difference over the past fifty years: supporting individuals and families, raising awareness, establishing and maintaining professional standards and influencing policymakers. But there is still a great deal to do to ensure our beneficiaries can expect access to the support and adjustments they need as standard, without having to fight for them. I am excited to work with our amazing community to make this vision a reality."

Chivonne's recent roles include: CEO of Mindfulness in Schools Project, working with teachers and leaders to address mounting mental health challenges facing schools; Business and Operations Director for the membership charity Parentkind (formerly ‘PTA UK’), providing support to volunteers in local community organisations and encouraging home-school partnerships; and as COO of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research and Operations Director of PLMR, an award-winning public affairs consultancy, she directed research and policy operations.

Chivonne qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young in 2002, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. She has an MSc in Public Policy and Public Administration from the London School of Economics and an MA in Theology from the University of Oxford.
