Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator - Norbury Manor Primary School
A teacher and special educational needs co-ordinator of 10 years who is committed to ensuring every child - regardless of need or background - has the opportunity to thrive.
My current role involves managing the provision for children with special educational needs in a two form entry mainstream primary school with an attached specialist unit for children with significant to profound hearing loss and associated speech and language difficulties. I work with staff to ensure that the provision and environment of their mainstream class matches the identified and unidentified needs of students in their class. Most importantly, I work directly with the children, ensuring the learning environment supports them to thrive and that their voices are heard. Most recently, in the wake of budget cuts and SEND reform across the country, I have worked closely with parents to ensure they know their rights within statutory processes and local authority decisions.
My passion lies in early identification, intervention and inclusivity. I hope one day to help shape the education of special educational needs children at a local authority or government level, ensuring that the education system meets the needs of all children.
