British Dyslexia Association - Associate Tutor (self-employed opportunity)

We are committed to ensuring that individuals of all ages have access to high-quality, specialist tutoring. We know firsthand the positive impact that effective, tailored support can have and are working to establish a tutoring service that connects individuals with suitably qualified professionals.

We are currently seeking self-employed qualified specialist teachers with an appropriate accreditation and membership (i.e. ATS,APS,APD,ATD or AMBDA with the BDA).

We would like to invite expressions of interest in delivering tutoring services through the British Dyslexia Association.

This service is overseen by the BDA, with tutors engaged on an associate basis.

The programme is managed via a comprehensive tutoring platform. Tuition sessions are scheduled and booked through the platform. You will receive training on the platform and support when needed.

Tutors will be paid £45 per hour-long session. Following an introductory session to ensure the right tutor match, families will then be able to book sessions, to be held online via the platform (for ages 8+)

Tutors are required to submit a monthly invoice to the BDA Finance team by the 25th of each month, in accordance with the consultancy agreement. All invoices must first be approved by the Tuition team before Finance is authorised to process payment.

Terms and conditions
You must hold either ATS, APS, APD, ATD, or AMBDA accreditation with the BDA. If you do not currently hold one of these accreditations, you may be eligible to apply for specialist teacher accreditation through the BDA, provided you have successfully completed a Level 5 or Level 7 specialist teacher or assessor course within the last five years. Please contact: accreditation@bdadyslexia.org.uk for further details.

Safeguarding
As part of our safeguarding procedures, you will also be required to upload the following information securely to the platform for review:

  • Enhanced DBS (including barring list) within the last 3 years or details of the update service along with your Date of birth or Access NÍ Check.
  • Proof of appropriate insurance
  • BDA Tutor/Assessor accreditation evidence (a copy of your certificate e.g. for ATS, ATD and so on)
  • An example lesson plan: This should be a specialist teaching lesson plan that clearly identifies the learner’s age and places the session within a broader programme (e.g., Session 3 of 10).

Once all your information has been reviewed and approved, you will be visible on the platform to parents, carers and adults with dyslexia.

Please note that expressing interest does not constitute a commitment to provide tutoring.
If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact  tuition@bdadyslexia.org.uk .

We look forward to welcoming you as a tutor.
