Thank you for becoming a Professional Member of the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) and registering for inclusion on the BDA Tutor List. Your support helps us work towards a world where individuals with dyslexia can thrive.
The BDA Tutor List is a professional directory of qualified Specialist Teachers and Assessors supporting individuals with specific learning difficulties (SpLD). Inclusion is available to those holding current BDA professional accreditation and membership.
This list allows members of the public to find appropriately qualified tutors or assessors for dyslexia and/or dyscalculia in their geographical area.
By registering your details on the BDA Tutor List ("the Tutor List"), you ("the Practitioner") agree to the following Terms and Conditions. These terms govern your participation under the management of the British Dyslexia Association (registered charity no. 289243), Registered address: 1 Friar Street, Reading, RG1 1DA ("the BDA" or "we")
1. Eligibility Criteria
To be included on the Tutor List, you must:
- Hold a BDA recognised qualification in specialist teaching and/or specific learning difficulty (SpLD) assessment, such as a Level 5 or Level 7 qualification in dyslexia/specific learning difficulties.
- Hold a current ATS, APS, ATD, or APD accreditation (for tutoring).
- Hold a current AMBDA or AMBDA Dyscalculia accreditation (for diagnostic assessments).
- Be a current BDA Professional Member (membership is contingent on valid accreditation).
- Maintain valid professional indemnity insurance and an enhanced DBS. The BDA reserves the right to request these documents at any time. Failure to provide them upon request may result in removal from the Tutor List
- Adhere to current legislation and ethical standards, including the BDA Code of Ethics and Conduct:

2. Professional Standards
Practitioners must:
- Conduct themselves professionally at all times, maintaining a high standard of practice in line with current professional and ethical guidelines.
- Ensure that they comply with all relevant safeguarding legislation and best practice. The BDA is not responsible for monitoring or ensuring safeguarding compliance.
- Ensure that teaching and assessment methods are appropriate, evidence-based, and tailored to individual learners’ needs.
- Maintain client confidentiality and securely store records and assessment reports.
- Keep up to date with continuing professional development (CPD) requirements relevant to their role.
- Keep BDA accreditation and membership up to date to remain listed.
3. Independence and Liability
- Practitioners listed on the Tutor List are independent professionals and not employees, agents, or partners of the BDA.
- Practitioners are solely responsible for the quality and outcomes of their own services, including tutoring and assessments.
- The BDA accepts no liability for services provided by listed practitioners, including but not limited to assessment outcomes, recommendations, or client satisfaction.
4. Referrals and Visibility
- All Tutor List entries are subject to BDA approval. We reserve the right amend listing details to reflect your current accreditation status accurately.
- Inclusion on the list does not guarantee client referrals, bookings, or income.
- Inclusion on the Professional List is not an endorsement of the Practitioner’s services by The BDA.
5. Removal from the List
The BDA reserves the right to remove a Practitioner from the Tutor List at any time, including but not limited to the following reasons:
Breach of these Terms and Conditions.
- Provision of false or misleading information.
- Repeated complaints or evidence of poor professional practice.
- Failure to maintain required documentation (e.g., DBS, insurance, accreditation).
- Inactivity or non-responsiveness over an extended period.
Practitioners may choose to remove themselves from the Tutor List at any time.
6. Data Protection and Confidentiality
- The BDA handles all personal data in accordance with UK GDPR (2018).
- By joining the list, you consent to your professional profile (e.g., name, qualifications, services) being shared with prospective clients and displayed publicly.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the information listed in your profile. The BDA is not responsible for any personal information you choose to share, such as email addresses or phone numbers.
7. Amendments to Terms
Access to the Tutor List is a benefit of BDA membership; however, the BDA reserves the right to amend, suspend, or withdraw this benefit at its discretion.
We may update these Terms and Conditions at any time. You will be notified of significant changes, and continued inclusion on the list will be considered acceptance of the revised terms.
