Tuition Service
Become a trusted BDA Tutor - Apply
We are committed to ensuring that individuals of all ages have access to high-quality, specialist tutoring. We know first hand the positive impact that effective, tailored support can have and are working to establish a tutoring service that connects individuals with suitably qualified professionals.
The demand for high-quality SEN tuition continues to grow, and the support you can provide to dyslexic learners and their families can make a real and lasting difference.
How it works
The service is managed through a tutoring platform where sessions are booked and scheduled. Tutors and learners are carefully matched, and sessions are scheduled directly through the portal.
Following an introductory session to ensure the right tutor match, families will then be able to book sessions, to be held online via the platform (for ages 8+).
Families manage a secure online "wallet." The BDA processes tutor payments monthly upon receipt of an invoice to our finance team.
Terms and conditions
You must hold either ATS, APS, APD, ATD, or AMBDA accreditation with the BDA. If you do not currently hold one of these accreditations, you may be eligible to apply for specialist teacher accreditation through the BDA, provided you have successfully completed a Level 5 or Level 7 specialist teacher or assessor course within the last five years. Please contact: accreditation@bdadyslexia.org.uk for further details.
Safeguarding
As part of our safeguarding procedures, you will also be required to upload the following information securely to the platform for review. Once all your information has been reviewed and approved, you will be visible on the platform to parents, carers and adults with dyslexia.
- Enhanced DBS Certificate (including barring list)
- Proof of appropriate insurance
- BDA Tutor/Assessor accreditation evidence (a copy of your certificate e.g. for ATS, ATD and so on)
- An example lesson plan: This should be a specialist teaching lesson plan that clearly identifies the learner’s age and places the session within a broader programme (e.g., Session 3 of 10).
The registration process
At this stage, you only need to complete the initial registration to set up your account. No documentation is required at this point. Once you have registered, all further instructions, including requests for supporting documents and lesson plans, will be sent to you directly through the tutoring platform. Please check your platform inbox for updates.
If this opportunity is of interest to you, we would love to hear from you.
Please note that expressing interest does not constitute a commitment to provide tutoring.
