Numerical Magnitude Processing (SASC Approved)

Length

2.30 hrs

Cost

£60

Location

eLearning

Course Description

This course explores numerical magnitude processing, a key area identified by SASC as central to understanding maths difficulties and dyscalculia. It develops assessors’ theoretical and practical understanding of how numerical magnitude processing supports mathematical development, how it can be assessed, and how findings can inform diagnostic decisions and targeted support.

Outcomes

  • Understand what is meant by numerical magnitude processing and its core components.
  • Explore the relationship between numerical magnitude processing, dyscalculia, and maths learning difficulties.
  • Review key research findings highlighting its predictive value for mathematical achievement.
  • Identify which STEC-approved assessment tools can be used to measure this domain.
  • Recognise informal and qualitative approaches for observing and exploring magnitude understanding.
  • Interpret assessment outcomes meaningfully within the context of diagnostic criteria for dyscalculia and maths learning difficulties.
  • Develop practical, evidence-informed recommendations to support the growth of magnitude processing through teaching and intervention.

Access to eLearning modules

The BDA aim to release eLearning modules on the first Thursday following the submission of your booking; and more specifically, providing payment has been made before the allotted time.

Access to you chosen eLearning modules / supporting course information, will only be provided once confirmation of payment has been received / confirmed; and more specifically, providing payment has been confirmed by midnight on the preceding Wednesday (GMT).

More specifically, should you require access to your chosen course(s) in a hurry, we would suggest that payment for your course(s) be made using a credit/debit card, as our finance team are typically able to confirm receipt of this within a few days.

Conversely, if a decision is made to pay via invoice, please be advised that we will only be able to release your eLearning related modules once payment has been received / confirmed.

e-Learning modules will automatically expire after 28 days.
