The Frog Game – Practicing words with “tch”
Tuesday 23 July 2024
About the game
This simple board game has been designed to be a fun way to reinforce learning of the trigraph “TCH” (as in fetch) and keep learning alive over the long summer holidays.
A trigraph is when three letters are used to represent one sound (or phoneme) - this can be tricky for dyslexic learners to read and spell and may require repeated opportunities for reinforcement.
The game is designed for learners from 7-11 years old but may also be suitable for other learners. The game can be downloaded from the resources section of our website.
You will need
- Counters or small objects to use as place markers – one for each player

- To download and print the board game
Suggestions on how to play
- Each player rolls the dice in turn. The player with the highest number starts the game.
- Take it in turns to throw the dice to see how many lily pads you can hop to.
- If you land on one with a connecting lily pad path, you can take this short cut.
- If you land on a snake, you must slide back down.
- Read and say the word on the lily pad you land on.
- There are no forfeits for wrong words – the game is designed to be a fun way to learn.
- The first one to reach home is the winner
