Linda shares why she is taking on London Marathon and supporting the BDA

Friday 29 July 2022

If you’re only ever going to do one marathon, make sure it’s the London Marathon! From the cheering crowds, thrilling atmosphere to the world-famous landmarks lining the 26.2-mile route, it’s no surprise that this is one of the best races in the world.

Applications are now open for a British Dyslexia Association charity place in this iconic event on Sunday 23 April 2023.

#TeamBDA Runner Linda and Kitty share why they chose to support The British Dyslexia Association

“After four years of saying I’d rather eat my underwear than run a Marathon, here I am plotting to run the most famous one in the world, London 2022! This crazy plan is massively outside my comfort zone and will almost certainly involve (a lot of) blood, sweat and tears, but I’m raising money for a cause that’s close to my heart and I am going to give it everything I’ve got.

Our brilliant 11-year-old daughter Kitty has just been diagnosed as dyslexic, after a five-year struggle to get her assessed. You might assume, as I did, that dyslexia is now well recognised and fully supported in the UK. Sadly, schools across the country are still hugely underfunded and undereducated when it comes to diagnosing dyslexic children and providing the help they need to learn and thrive. Early intervention and specialist support are crucial for a dyslexic child’s development and mental health; needlessly allowing children to feel lost, stressed and stupid every day is simply unacceptable.

Any money that you can spare will be gratefully received and used, via The British Dyslexia Association, to help children like Kitty reach their full potential. We can’t thank you enough.”
