Our CEO Ellen Broomé is taking on the London Marathon!

Did you know our incredible CEO Ellen Broomé is taking on the London Marathon in April 2027 for the BDA? We couldn’t be more proud of her!
“I'm running the London Marathon to fundraise for the British Dyslexia Association because too many dyslexic people are still misunderstood, unsupported and held back from reaching their potential. Too many children grow up believing they're not clever simply because they learn differently, and too many parents are left heartbroken, watching their child struggle in a system that doesn't understand them."
The impact of dyslexia on children’s confidence and wellbeing is clear: four in five believe they are not intelligent because of their dyslexia, while 60% experience bullying or teasing. Despite this, many children still struggle to access the support they need. With families often forced to pay privately for assessments and specialist help, access remains unequal, leaving too many children without the opportunity to reach their full potential.
“This isn't just about education. It's about confidence, self-esteem and future opportunities.”
Last week as part of her training, she took on Hampton Court Palace, met up with a Henry VIII look alike, and ran an incredible half marathon. As she prepares to take on the challenge, Ellen says:
“I’m sure there will be plenty of sore legs and feet as I take on the London Marathon, but it’s a small price to pay for a cause I care so very much about. Every pound raised helps the British Dyslexia Association make a real difference to the lives of dyslexic people, and that’s what will keep me going when the going gets tough!”
Donations given to Ellen, and to all of our fundraisers are vital. Without them, we would struggle to offer so much support free of charge. Last year, these funds helped us to deliver free training to parents, educators and workplaces. They helped us run free peer support groups, and develop and share our resources. They help us to work with dyslexic people, so that their voice is at heart of our strategy and all we do. These funds also help us to keep our national Helpline open. We know how expensive getting dyslexia support can be. We know that it isn’t right. But your donations can help to change this.
We are so proud of our incredible CEO, and we can’t wait to cheer her on in April. If you’d like to send some encouragement, you can donate here.
