Dyslexia Awareness Week 2025 - Kicks off TODAY!

Monday 6 October 2025

Dyslexia Awareness Week is here!

It’s #DAW25 and our theme this year is ‘Dyslexia: Raising the volume.’ Let’s add our voices together and build momentum for change!

New Report: ‘Set up for somebody else’

Today we launched a report ‘Set up for somebody else’: Young people with dyslexia in the education system to shine a light on the experiences and challenges of our dyslexic children and young people in school. It sets out what young people think would help them, and our recommendations for Government. Their voices are incredible and come through strongly – below are just two of the many quotes we got:

“I wish I never had it - life would be much easier rather than struggling every day.” Young person with dyslexia, aged 15

“Most teachers didn’t really understand what it’s like to be dyslexic. They just thought I was being lazy or not paying attention, but really, I was trying my best.” Young person with dyslexia, aged 14

The changes we want to see are clear, and we need everyone to join together and push for change.

Launch of the first ever voice petition ‘Hear Us’

We’ve teamed up with Jamie Oliver and a group of familiar faces to launch something groundbreaking: the UK’s first-ever voice petition and we're asking parents, teachers and young people to speak up for change.

Hosted exclusively on Spotify, this petition flips the traditional format. Instead of signing your name, you record a message, because not everyone communicates in the same way.

Theo Paphitis, Davina McCall, Kelly Hoppen, Fia Tarrant, Sam Nixon and many more have already added their voices. Will you add yours?

The petition calls for two key changes:

  • Screen children for dyslexia within their first two years at school.
  • Equip teachers with the training and resources to support every child.

As Jamie says, “An education system that only works for some kids and not everyone is broken.”

This campaign keeps the pressure on Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson as she prepares long-promised SEND reforms. But how can those reforms be right if the voices of those living through the system haven’t been heard?

Now is the time to speak up. Whether you’re a parent, a teacher, or someone who believes every child deserves a fair shot at education.
