The main concern of the BDA is that  professional help available to people with dyslexia, of all ages and abilities, should be a consistenly high quality. ATS FE/HE holders are recognised Specialist Teachers of Learners with Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs). ATS FE/HE holders are able to conduct informal, curriculum-based assessments and deliver specialist teaching programmes to learners of 16 years and abve, including adults.

ATS FE/HE holders can go on to further study, leading to Associate Member of the BDA (AMBDA FE/HE). This is the 'Gold Standard' for Specialist Teachers and is for conducting formal diagnostic assessments and Exam Access Arrangements  ATS. FE/HE candidates might also like to apply for a Teaching Practising Certificate (TPC)

Holders of ATS FE/HE can also apply for Professional Membership of the BDA.
