New dyslexia assessment bursaries available for young People

Monday 17 November 2025

We are delighted to announce the launch of a third round of dyslexia assessment bursaries, made possible through our ongoing partnership with our Empowerment Patron, Theo Paphitis, and his fantastic team at Ryman.

This initiative aims to provide, remote dyslexia assessments for young people aged 12–21 from low-income families across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, helping to ensure every young person has access to the support they need to reach their full potential.

Thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts of the Ryman team, from countryside treks and mountain climbs to brave volunteers being gunged in shop windows, we have already provided 48 dyslexia assessment bursaries this year alone. Now, with their continued dedication, we are thrilled to open applications once again.

A diagnostic assessment can be life-changing in helping individuals understand their strengths, challenges, and how best to access tailored support in education, work, and daily life.

"This means the world to me...this is a life-changing moment. We don't seem to have any wins, just battles, and I'm so grateful to you for providing this opportunity to my son." Bursary recipient, March 2025

Theo Paphitis, proudly says of his role as the BDA’s Empowerment Patron:
“At the heart of this role is wanting to ensure that those with dyslexia have early diagnosis, the support they need, and feel empowered to achieve whatever they want to. We must help empower dyslexic young people’s futures and make sure their opportunities aren’t limited because of their dyslexia.”

Applications are open until the 9 January 2026.
We will then contact applicants on a first-come, first-served basis to complete a booking pack. Eligibility will then be assessed once the pack has been received. Eligibility Criteria and Terms and Conditions apply: Find out more

Further bursary rounds are expected to be available in 2026, thanks to the continued generosity of Theo Paphitis and the Ryman team. Keep an eye on our website for updates
