Team BDA - London Marathon 2019!

Team BDA - London Marathon 2019!

With just 16 days to go until the London Marathon 2019, we thought we would introduce you to some more members of Team BDA who are doing a fantastic job of training for the big one, whilst raising vital funds for those with dyslexia!

John Martin

One of my boys has severe dyslexia (as well as other learning difficulties) and if it was not for the BDA and the amazing support of Bredon School, he'd not be reading and writing.

My son has to persevere to overcome his learning difficulties, so it seems appropriate for me to persevere towards my goal of running the London Marathon on 28th April 2019 (and banish the memories of 2018 which started so well and ended with a long hot walk!)

Chris Schofield

Hi - I’m Chris Schofield, and I was identified as having dyslexia when I was 15, having struggled with any subject that used the word ‘discuss’ in a question, and it was the best thing that happened to me. It helped me identify where my strengths were, and how to develop them rather than focusing on the frustrations the dyslexia caused.

My 9 year old son has now also been diagnosed with Dyslexia, and through a positive attitude towards it he’s proud of how knowing about it has helped him become well ahead of his years in chess. I genuinely believe my life and his have been enriched through understanding dyslexia, and I’m proud to support a charity that helps people in similar situations.

As for running… well, I hate it. 5km is more my distance. My legs are not built for long distances, with severe shin splints and cramps reminding me that I’m not doing this for the fun of it! I’ll be going for a run/walk strategy this year, to see if that proves better than my run/cry/hobble strategy from previous years!
