What is a Masterclass?

This special session, will be a combination of taught session, practical activities and group interactions to explore the issues around ADHD and co-occurring learning differences.  Fintan O’Regan is a fantastic speaker and teacher, so join us for this engaging and informative day!

What will be explored?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is term used to describe a spectrum of learning and behavioural and socialisation differences.

The negative impact of ADHD within schools, families and on our society can be highly significant unless proactive systems and strategies for effective teaching and management are introduced and adapted for specific individuals.

This full day Masterclass will deliver a range of options for inclusive educational approaches to meet the needs of children and young persons with ADHD and co-existing conditions.

The content of the course will include:

  • Considering traits, causes, prevalence. impact and diagnosis routes and options  
  • Girls and Boys with ADHD and co existing difficulties and differences including Dyslexia, Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) , Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Conduct Disorder (CD)
  • Introducing the SF3R model of management of Structure, Flexibility, Rapport, Relationships and Resilience to meet Educational, Behavioural and Socialisation goals.
  • Setting rules, rituals and routines, accessing the curriculum, seating and goal setting, organisation, study skills, homework  and rewarding positive outcomes
  • Dealing with Mood, Motivation, Distractibility, Disruption and Defiance 
  • How best to deal with peer interaction during class and non-classroom time, including the issues of bullying behaviour 
  • Looking at the role of multi-agency intervention and the role of medication
  • Home school collaboration and communication and preparing the child and family for transitions 
  • Developing a series of case studies and sharing expertise and experiences from delegates of teaching and managing children and young persons with ADHD and co-existing conditions

  • SF3R management model: Outlining how Structure, Flexibility, Rapport, Relationships and Resilience are the key approaches to meet the Learning,

  • Strategies and Stories: Problem solving a range of issues including, Distractibility, Disruption and Defiance and considering a series of case studies and sharing the experience and expertise from delegates present
