Parent Workshop

There is a requirement for schools undertaking the Bronze Award to demonstrate that parent workshops are held by the school ‘to ensure parents’ awareness of basic phonics and literacy development and/or dyslexia and other SpLD.’

Here, we have constructed a presentation, compliant with the criteria of the award, which you may find useful when hosting such an event within your school.  The aims of this presentation are:

  • To share how phonics is taught at your school.
  • To develop your confidence in helping your children with phonics and reading
  • To share the basics of phonics and some useful phonics terms
  • To outline the different stages in phonic development
  • To show examples of activities and resources that schools use to teach phonics
  • To give parents an opportunity to ask questions.
