National Scholarship Scheme to Support Professional Development
On 27th June 2011, the Department for Education (DfE) launched the National Scholarship Scheme to support professional development.
The Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) is leading the National Scholarship Scheme to support professional development, which gives teachers more control over their careers by allowing them to choose professional development programmes and activities to support and strengthen their subject knowledge.
The primary aims of the scholarship scheme are to:
- encourage serving teachers to pursue knowledge independently to masters-level and beyond.
- make it easier for teachers to access masters-level CPD in their subject area or to access expert seminars.
- bring about a culture change to create expectations within the sector about the importance of scholarship throughout a teacher's career, and
- share learning, knowledge and expertise across the school system.
