Volunteer Opportunities at the 2012 Olympic Games

With just over two years to go until the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the search is on for 70,000 volunteers who will make the London 2012 Games happen. These people will be called 'Games Makers'.

The British Dyslexia Association (BDA) has been given the opportunity to find dyslexic volunteers to take part in this major global event.

The volunteer roles will not be available for the general public to apply until the 15 September. However, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) is inviting dyslexic individuals to apply before this date.

Some of the volunteer roles available include:

  • Athlete Escort
  • Costume Assistant
  • Village Newspaper Reporter
  • Community Relations

If you would like to register your interest in volunteering at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 you need to complete an application form and, if successful, attend a selection event. All applicants offered a Games Maker role must also attend three training events prior to the Games. The volunteer roles will take place at 30 locations across the UK.

Eligibility criteria

All Games Makers applying through the BDA will need to fulfil the following basic criteria:

  • Must be dyslexic
  • Must be aged 18 or above on 1 January 2012
  • Must be eligible to volunteer in the UK in line with UK immigration rules
  • Must be willing to volunteer for at least 10 days of shifts and attend a minimum of three days of training
  • Must be able to find own accommodation and travel
