Support Groups are independent dyslexia groups that may or may not wish to become Local Associations, linked to the BDA. For those that do perhaps wish to become a charity and to develop into a Local Association, then the BDA’s regional staff will provide support and guidance to the Support Group to achieve its aim.
Occasionally a Local Association may find that it is no longer able to maintain its charitable status and meet the specific entry criteria. In the past such an association would have closed, but it is now possible for such an association to transfer into the Support Group category and remain as part of the BDA family.

Our Objectives.
The BDA is the voice of dyslexic people. Our vision is of a dyslexia friendly society that will enable all dyslexic people to reach their potential.
We aim to influence government and other institutions to promote a dyslexia friendly society. As the umbrella organisation, we want dyslexic people to view the BDA as the organisation that best represents them. So the work of the BDA must reflect the values that dyslexic people hold dear.
We will listen to, and act upon, the needs of dyslexic people. We will foster a feeling of togetherness for all of our membership and be respectful of dyslexic people, volunteers and staff.
