Welcome to the BDA Schools Awards pages
It is our pleasure to present to you our suite of Schools awards, comprising of:
The BDA Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark Award for Schools
The Literacy Leap Certification Framework – Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards
All of our awards are robust in their design and practical application. They have been tried and tested with criteria developed by an appropriate steering committee of educationalists and specialists within the field of SEND, alongside parents and grandparents of dyslexic children (specialists in their own right!). Criteria has been piloted with rigorous monitoring and evaluation procedures to ensure an end result of challenging yet meaningful measures of supportive practice.
Please note that the suite of awards are progressive, i.e. for the Literacy Leap award, all bronze level requirements will need to be met before moving on to the Silver award.
Each of the awards can be accessed at any time, for example, you may wish to go straight for the Gold award, and if this is the case then you will need to demonstrate that you have met the criteria that make up the Silver and Bronze awards.
Alternatively, you may decide that the requirements of the BDA Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark Award are more fitting or more of a challenge for your school and you can apply directly to undertake this initiative, irrespective of the Literacy Leap programme.
You do not have to undertake each of the awards in turn. If you would like to apply for the BDA Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark Award straight away, you can certainly do so.
The BDA Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark

- Leadership and Management
- Teaching Practice
- The Learning Environment

Each award within the suite comes with an audit document, designed to help you review each of the criteria that make up the award you are considering and rate your current position.
This will help you to establish the award that is most appropriate for your school. It will also help quantify what you already have in place and areas that need further development to become compliant with the award.
