Members’ Day 2011

We are delighted to announce that this year’s Members’ Day (including lunch) will now be a free event for all members and their families

The British Dyslexia Association, is proud to continue in the tradition of having a Members' Day for all our members and their families.

After the success of previous events in York and Leicester, we are pleased that this year’s event will be held in Oxfordshire on 22nd October 2011. The event will be held in conjunction with the BDA AGM.

The Members’ Day is an event for all the family, including workshops for adults and children around the subject of dyslexia. This year’s keynote speaker, Dr Lindsey Peer is back due to popular demand. Other speakers include, Rachel Ingham, John Mackenzie, Andy Fell and resident BDA and Olympic artist, Jon Adams.

This event is designed, not only for members, but potential members, family members, dyslexics, and the local dyslexia community.

Rachel Ingham returns after speaking at the Spring Council meeting in 2006. Rachel has since retained strong ties to the BDA, supporting dyslexics through a dyslexia friendly schools initiative and is now one of the BDA training associates.

John Mackenzie a disability advocate, formerly a solicitor, has supported many dyslexics through work tribunals and offered advice at many BDA events. John is also Vice Chairman of the BDA.

Andy Fell has been working for the BDA as an associate trainer and a workplace assessor for a number of years. Andy has supported the BDA through his knowledge and skill of ICT and assistive technology.

We also enjoy a close relationship with the artist Jon Adams, who is himself dyslexic, and has been our artist in residence at a number of conferences this year. Jon won the BDA art competition many years ago. We are delighted that Jon has been commissioned to be an artist for the Olympics Open weekend. His work ‘flags’ is a piece commenting on barriers and breaking them down.

AGM

The BDA will be holding its AGM in conjunction with our Members’ Day. This is a free event for all members where BDA will report on its activities over the previous year. It allows Members to understand BDA aims and objectives and vote on any resolutions. The AGM will begin at 2.30pm.
