Basic Awareness Training Course Contents.

All dyslexia awareness workshops will include the following content:

  • What is dyslexia?
  • Some signs and indicators of dyslexia.
  • Outline of theories related to dyslexia and research on the topic.
  • The importance of memory.
  • How does it feel to be dyslexic?
  • The impact of dyslexia on the individual.
  • Signposting to support and advice.

Full day workshops may include the following, in addition to the above:

  • The Adult Dyslexia Checklist – knowing what to observe.
  • Strategies for development.
  • Creating a dyslexia friendly organisation / environment.
  • The Disability Discrimination Act 95/04 – what you need to know.
  • Making reasonable adjustments.

Specialised courses can be created to suit the client's needs. Areas which could be included are:

  • Making reasonable adjustments in your environment (specific to the client).
  • Study skills for the individual.
  • A strategic approach to creating a culture of support.
  • In-depth look at related research.
  • Discussion on new research and publications.
  • Supporting the individual further.
  • Establishing a mentoring scheme in your organisation.


Further topics can be included as negotiated with client.
