Dyslexia ~ Making Links: From Theory to Practice

Building on the success of the 7th BDA International Conference ‘Dyslexia ~ Making Links’ in March 2008, the British Dyslexia Association are running another event in the UK specifically for practitioners in UK and the rest of Europe.

· Dyslexia ~ Making Links: from theory to practice is a 2 day event (27 and 28 February 2009) with the option of attending an additional 3 day training course on Specific Learning Difficulties linked to the conference themes on 24, 25 and 26 February 2009)

· Master Classes and interactive training seminars based on research and practice on a range of subjects across the 5 days including:
1. Reading Comprehension Impairments
2. Developmental Co-ordination Disorders
3. Dyscalculia and Dyslexia
4. Attention Deficit Disorders and Hyperactivity Disorders
5. Speech and Language Difficulties
6. Auditory Processing Disorders
7. Specific Language Impairments
8. The role of Self Esteem and Self Perception in addressing Specific Learning Difficulties
9. Genetic factors, symptoms, co morbidity occurrence and implications for practitioners
10. Multilingualism and dyslexia
11. Identification and support of people with specific learning difficulties.

Each Master class will include a Researcher and Practitioner to provide information on the learning difficulty and practical advice on the most appropriate teaching. Implications for practitioners will be discussed. An interactive element will enable delegates to ask detailed questions as part of the Master classes.

Specific Training seminars will address particular issues associated with identifying and supporting people with specific learning difficulties across the age range and from varying cultural and linguistic perspectives.

‘Round the Table’ discussions will also be run by a key academic and made up of Master Class and training presenters who will respond to questions from the audience.

This event has been approved by the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning Grundtvig and Comenius National Agencies and is attracting delegates from all over Europe.
