BDA Ambassadors
Louis Barnett
The BDA is delighted to have Louis Barnett as an ambassador.
His story is nothing short of inspirational, having turned negatives into positives and achieving success at a young age, Louis has become a 21st century Willy Wonka!
Louis overcame his severe dyslexia and dyspraxia and is now, having just turned 18, the Director of his own very successful chocolate making business.
From a very early age Louis, from Shropshire, England, got into trouble at school, constantly being told off by teachers and receiving detentions. Louis showed all the signs of dyslexia being unable to grasp the basics of reading, writing and spelling, amongst others, yet having a very high IQ.
However, Louis’ passion for chocolate started in 2003 when Louis came across a book on cakes and decorations. From this, Louis moved into making chocolate, which led to him producing chocolates for his family and friends.
Louis then transformed his hobby into a full time business and his company, Chokolit, so-called because of the way he phonetically spelt the word chocolate, now make hand made Belgian chocolates packaged in a box made entirely of chocolate.
The success of his company has been outstanding, with the company managing to get their products on the shelves of Sainsbury’s from the initial product pitch to supermarket shelf within five months, something which takes the average company 18 months!
Louis’ Chokolit products are now stocked in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Selfridges in Birmingham and in London, as well as many zoos nationally. Louis is also the youngest ever supplier of both Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.
